Head of Technology – Mobile Apps

Our client is a highly successful technology business based in the Newcastle area, a healthy, growing business looking for an exceptional Head of Technology to help design, drive and deliver their technical roadmap for current and future projects.

As part of this small, highly progressive company, your role will be to oversee, architect and help develop high quality apps and features on foundation technology for mobile platforms, gathering requirements, designing solutions, implementing robust code, testing and debugging.

Your responsibilities as “Head of Technology – Mobile Apps” will include:

  • Work with production, development and product teams to understand business and system requirements to translate them into technical solutions; developing technical designs, engineering schedules and engine systems; troubleshooting issues
  • Manage, monitor, prioritise and assist resolving live service issues
  • Lead project and group collaboration efforts and utilise engineering best practices, such as code reviews, automation, testing, etc
  • Manage department operational planning and projects, and direct the allocation of resources
  • Define and drive the delivery of architectural and functional specifications to achieve product requirements and strategic objectives
  • Line management of reporting leads
  • Oversee output and development of the whole technical team, including:
    • iOS developers (iOS devs work in Objective C & Swift language)
    • Android developers (Android Devs work in Java & Kotlin languages)
    • Web developers
    • Server developers (Server/Web devs work in building a series of Java and Node JS Micro-Services.)
  • Driving continuous improvement, quality & project delivery
  • Review and promote improvements to development processes and standards
  • Designing and architect clients (iOS & Android), plus cloud backend
  • Develop and revise statements of work, to include accurate time and cost estimates
  • Research and introduce new technologies for all employees and management
  • Enforce coding standards, code review & technical documentation process across all departments
  • Promoting Lean/Agile methodologies
  • Promote understanding, communication, and direction of the technical teams to the wider studio
  • Recruitment and resourcing to all reporting roles

 

Required “Head of Technology – Mobile Apps” skills and experience:

  • Recent solid and successful commercial delivery experience gained operating in a similar role – Head of Technology, Head of Engineering, Head of Development, Software Engineering Manager or CTO in a mobile focussed software development environment
  • Proven ability to own the technical roadmap – delivery and future planning
  • Excellent understanding of cloud and mobile development, platforms and ecosystems
  • Previous experience leading teams & cross-platform architecture
  • Relevant qualifications and certifications highly advantageous (eg Cloud)
  • Agile/Scrum experience
  • Strong build process methodologies (incl. continuous integration)
  • Strong managerial and supervisory experience with first class interpersonal skills and ability to foster positive relationships
  • Innovative mind-set, striving for excellence, keeping current with new technology and ways to improve
  • Experience creating and building world class development teams, managing and mentoring them
  • A collaborative, adaptable personality, passionate, self-motivated and interested in SME, scale-up and growth/rapid change

 On Offer is:

 

  • An excellent salary of £80,000 - £100,000 + pension + benefits
